Join Scouting America as a Family

Updated: Aug 10

Are you looking for a way to spend quality time with your family? Do you want to create lasting memories while enjoying the great outdoors? If so, Scouting America has the perfect solution for you. Our Cub-o-Ree Activity Day at Camp Snyder is designed to bring families together for fun, learning, and adventure. Overnight camping is optional!

What is a Cub-o-Ree Activity Day?

Cub-o-Rees are special events organized by our Scouting America Burke Lake District leaders. They are designed to engage families in outdoor activities that promote teamwork, learning, and fun. Each event is packed with activities that cater to ages , ensuring everyone has a great time.

This year's Cub Scout “Adventure Day”/Cub-O-Ree will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5, 2025, and will feature all the events Cub Scouts enjoy including BB Gun Rifle Marksmanship, Archery, Climbing Wall, Gaga Ball, STEM and Sling Shot Shooting.

The event is open to all Cub Scouts, family members and future Cub Scouts!  Cub Packs from all around Burke Lake District are encouraged to invite prospective youth who may want to join Cub Scouts. Youth do not need to be registered Scouts to attend this event.  Additionally, we will show a “Movie Under the Stars” at sunset before closing the event. Join us at Camp Snyder.

Why Join Us?

Joining a Cub-o-Ree offers numerous benefits. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider participating:

  • Quality Family Time: In today’s busy world, it can be hard to find time to connect with your loved ones. These nights provide a perfect opportunity to unplug and enjoy each other’s company.

  • Outdoor Skills: Participants will learn essential outdoor skills, such as camping, games, and Scouting techniques. These skills are not only fun to learn but also useful for future adventures.

  • Community Connection: Scouting America is all about community. By joining us, you will meet other families who share your interests and values. This can lead to lasting friendships and support networks.

  • Memorable Experiences: Each Cub-o-Ree is unique, offering different activities and themes. From campfire storytelling to outdoor sports to STEM, you will create memories that your family will cherish for years to come.

Tips for a Great Experience

To ensure you have the best experience possible, here are some helpful tips:

  • Dress Appropriately: Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes. Check the weather forecast and dress in layers if necessary. The uniform for youth attending is the Cub Scout Class B or similar clothing.  The class B uniform is a Scout or unit t-shirt with long or short pants or a skort and hat.  Youth attending as guests that are not scouts can wear similar regular clothes.  All youth must wear enclosed shoes such as sneakers or other solid footwear.  Youth cannot wear sandals or clogs.  All youth need to bring a refillable water bottle.

  • Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water to keep everyone hydrated throughout the night.

  • Be Open-Minded: Embrace new experiences and be willing to try different activities.

  • Engage with Others: Take the opportunity to meet other families and share your experiences. This is especially important for new families exploring Scouting.

  • Have Fun: Remember, the goal is to enjoy time with your family. Don’t stress about perfection. Have fun!

Are you connected to a youth mental health and health leader in the community?

We know a digital world is making a dent in the mental health and wellness of our youth and community. Many clinicians regularly recommend physical activity, social engagement, and confidence-building activities to support healthy child development – but they may not know how to connect families to a solution, like getting involved in Scouting.

Kids thrive with Scouting.
